Once part of the Silk Route, Nathu La, at an elevation of 14,450 feet is renowned for its diverse alpine flora and fauna. The road to Nathu La is one of the highest motorable roads in India, passing through Tsomgo Lake on its way.

It is a glacial lake some 40 kilometres away from Gangtok. Tsomgo is made of two words 'Tso' meaning "lake" and 'Mgo' meaning "head" which gives the literal meaning as "source of the lake.
Located at Lingdum village, it was built by the present Gharwang Rinpoche who is the 12th incarnate of Zurmang Gharwang.
Offering majestic views of the city far below, Ganesh Tok is dramatically framed by Mt. Kanchenjunga on one side and Mt. Siniolchu on the other.
