Summit Hotels & Resorts Launches "Summit Norbu Ghang - The Signature Collection" Pangthang in Gangtok
Summit Hotels & Resorts has expanded its presence in the Northeast with the opening of Summit Norbu Ghang - The Signature Collection in Gangtok, marking the company’s entry into the retreat hotel segment in Sikkim. The newly launched 38-room property is perched on a hilltop in Pangthang and offers uninterrupted views of the Eastern Himalayas, including Mount Kanchenjunga.
Surrounded by pine forests and natural mountain terrain, the retreat is positioned to cater to travellers seeking tranquillity, privacy and a more immersive mountain experience. Although the property is within driving distance of Gangtok’s main town, its elevated location ensures a peaceful setting away from urban activity.
Commenting on the launch, Sumit Mitruka, Founder and Managing Director, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said the region is witnessing a shift in traveller preferences. “Gangtok and its surrounding areas are attracting travellers who want deeper engagement with nature and a stronger sense of place beyond conventional sightseeing. Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang reflects our destination-led approach to mountain hospitality, where wellness, environment and local context come together thoughtfully. This opening strengthens our presence in the Northeast and aligns with our long-term vision of creating distinctive destination hotels,” he said.
The property features 38 rooms across multiple categories, including superior and deluxe rooms, premium suites, attic suites and luxury suites. All rooms includeprivate balconies with panoramic Himalayan views, while select suites offer separate living and dining areas suited for extended stays. In line with the region’s climate and sustainability considerations, the rooms do not feature air conditioning or minibars.
Wellness forms a central part of the retreat’s offering. Guests have access to a dedicated spa with specialised treatments, along with spaces designed foryoga and meditation. These facilities are intended to promote rest and rejuvenation, complemented by the resort’s serene surroundings and mountain vistas.
Dining at the retreat includes a multi-cuisine restaurant serving local Sikkimese specialities alongside Indian and international fare, as well as a sun deck overlooking Kanchenjunga. The property also features a banquet hall spanning approximately 5,000 square feet, capable of hosting over 500 guests, making it suitable for destination events, retreats and intimate social gatherings.
Summit Norbu Ghang is part of the group’s Summit Signature Series, which focuses on experience-driven properties with enhanced design, service standards and local immersion. With this launch, Summit Hotels & Resorts continues to deepen its footprint in the Northeast, catering to leisure travellers, wellness-focused guests and small groups exploring Sikkim and the Eastern Himalayas.
